What Is a Cup Head Pin Welder for HVAC Duct Insulation?
A cup head pin welder is used to secure insulation directly to sheet-metal ductwork. During installation, the pin is pushed through the insulation until its tip contacts the metal surface and is then welded in place. Because the retaining head is already attached to the pin, no separate locking washer is required.
This through-insulation welding method is commonly used with materials such as glass wool, rock wool, and rubber foam insulation. Compared with adhesive bonding or drilling, it provides a faster and more consistent way to secure insulation at multiple attachment points.
As for CD insulation weld pins with self-locking washers, the welding process is completely different.
Unlike cup head pins, CD insulation weld pins use a separate pin and self-locking washer. The pin is welded to the metal surface first, the insulation is then fitted over it, and the washer is pressed onto the exposed pin to hold the material in place.
For this reason, the welding equipment and accessories required for these pins also differ from those used for cup head pins. Be sure to distinguish between the two when purchasing equipment or accessories, or contact the supplier for confirmation.
